Hey friends, I made a second outfit for my Fit Capsule as part of Greenstyles challenge. I went old school and picked the Inspire Tights because this fabric is rad and I didn't want to break it up or block it.

Both my top and my tights are part of the capsule. My tank is Striped Swallow Designs Harbor Knot Tank (simple version.) and I pieced it together from some scraps, hence the seam at the shoulders. I told myself it just looks sporty. :P It's made from the 125gsm ABP from Surge Fabric. I bought 2 yards and made my husband a workout tee and a pair of Comox unders to match for Valentine's. I had just under 3/4 of a yard so I picked up my modified HKT and pieced together the shoulder part and now I have an awesome, perfectly my style tank to throw on with all the tights I've been sewing.

This is the third time I've made the Inspire tights. The last time was in 2015 when I tested the pattern! I completely forgot that I could eliminate the side seam, so naturally I cut it wrong and had to sew the side seam anyway. The only modification that I made was to use the gusset piece from the stride tights which is a little bigger than the one in the inspire tights. I cut the crotch area with the stride pattern and then cut the rest with the inspire pattern.

This rad fabric is also from Surge. It is the premium athletic. With one yard I was able to get enough fabric for these tights and the power bra! I haven't sewn that one up yet, but it's stacked up in my "to sew" pile. For anyone wondering, the premium athletic is a great, thick material. It is less compressive than circular knit, but it has plenty of compression for workout tights. It would be nice for late winter or spring running, or obviously just dorking around the house. :)

For anyone who is feeling the basics more, Surge has quite a few solid colors of the premium athletic fabric, too! If you are on the fence, I definitely recommend trying this!

Side note: I reversed cover stitched all the seams to add style and strength. I DO NOT RECOMMEND trying to cover stitch the inner leg seam. It literally almost killed me. Hahaha

Greenstyle kills it with the fitness patterns and I am so thankful to be living in 2019 where we have someone designing stuff like this! I remember just a few years ago the indie scene was baron of athletic wear and the big 4 only had patterns your aunt Karen would have worn back in 1973.
Hello future. You are amazing.

This is the newest "athletic tights" pattern from Greenstyle, and to be fair, they're not even all that new. I think the Super G Tights came out early 2018. Last year was different than any other year for me, though, as I spent the majority of it pregnant. Pregnancy is not a joke, guys. It's weird and wonderful. I was so lucky to have a relatively easy one and end up with a beautiful baby girl. Do I talk about my baby enough? Do you get it? I have a kid. This is what moms do and I'm sorry, it's probably pretty obnoxious. haha I cut these out pregnancy and just now finished them. Thank god they fit! <3

I made these in size XS and they fit great! They're called the Super G's because they have a super long gusset which allows for the most advanced yoga moves and the most energetic couch potatoing. I've been wearing them for approximately 4 days. I keep meaning to take them off, but it's just not in the stars. I considered showering in them, but that was a step too far.

The pockets are probably my favorite feature. I actually said out loud to my husband, "I have no idea why I waste my time on pockets on leggings, I NEVER USE THEM because my phone case won't fit in them." Then I followed the super clean construction of the pockets on these tights and finished them and BAM! My phone fits great and I'm so happy I wasted my time on pockets. They are the best!

I got this awesome fabric from Surge Fabric Shop. It's a Nylon ATY Circular Knit and and thick and plush without being too warm. I've tried circular knit in the past and it wasn't love, but these stay up and allow me to move easily. 10/10 will wear again. I can't decide on the next color I want! Is gray too boring? Is pink to twee?

Anyone else have their significant other take their photos? Somehow. (and I'm not calling anyone out.) but SOMEHOW I always end up with no less than 9 or so butt pictures that I have to sort through and delete. Like, WHO IS COLLECTING THESE? -_-

These tights were constructed on my serger and I took the extra time to coverstitch all the seams that I could. I only couldn't do the back half of the gusset.... let's hope that doesn't come back to "pop me in the butt." I was using my sewing machine to attach the clear elastic when the thread kept breaking / twisting / the needle skipping stitches and then it dawned on me, use the danged coverstitch to attach the elastic. Now I'm kicking myself that I never thought of that before. What the heck is wrong with me?!

See that amazing gusset?! Also, how to women wear leggings with sneakers? It never doesn't look dumb to me. Yet, here we are.

There is a sale going on for both Surge's athletic fabric and for Greenstyle's athletic patterns! Greenstyle is hosting their annual Fit Capsule SAL and it is a ton of fun! It's the 4th day of 2019 and I'm already exhausted! Maybe that's due to the new baby that I just had. She is so cute I can't handle it. I just want to snuggle her all day, everyday before she gets too big.:)

Like any other beginning of the year, I'm stoked to be making new workout clothes to prepare for all the exercise I might be motivated to do. Greenstyle is my go to for workout patterns. They always fit me great without alterations and her directions are super clear and the designs are really functional and on trend.

This pattern pairs perfectly with the new Athletic Fabric from Surge Fabric Shop. It's a nylon/spandex blend and it is SO SOFT. Like, rivals baby's cheeks soft. I'm not kidding. It's super cozy, very stretchy, and perfect for athletic wear.

I make the 32 band size B with the strappy back option and nursing clips. I also lined it with beige power mesh from Surge Fabric Shop.

I found these awesome clips at Joann's! It really makes nursing so much easier. I was super salty about the clips, though. The package said it had 4 sets, but it really had TWO sets. How many boobs do you think I want nursing clips for, Joann? You think one clip per bra is enough?!?! I thought four sets would make four bras, but there are only enough for two.

The bra takes a lot of clear elastic and the straps were so hard to turn! I finally read the directions and the pattern gives a great tip to turn the tubes. Remember to read the pattern! :P It was definitely worth it to make the straps matching, I think it makes it look more professional. Black would have been okay, too.

And here's my squish! I was in labor for about 30 hours before going to the hospital and to pass the time I was sewing this bra. I didn't buy nursing bras so I was really determined to finish before the baby came. I didn't quite make it, but I was so close! It was a good and successful feeling to complete it once I came home.

Seems Zoe likes the bra, too :)

Is it just me or do you also find that the person you wish to be and the person that you are aren't always the same thing? Ok, that's a little deep. I'm mostly talking about sewing. Who knew that the feeling of inadequacy can seep over into hobbies, too? I wholeheartedly want to be a certain type of seamstress. I want to make all the patterns from Deer and Doe, Sewaholic, Grainline, and Closet Case. I want to tackle outdoor coats, jeans, and dresses with boning. But here I am, six years in and I just finished my first hoodie. I'm JUST to the point where I can make gentle mods to my patterns and not freak tf out. Don't get me wrong. I can do so much and I have done so much! I'm the pround owner of a coverstitch and I use it damnit! Still, I want to be better.

This year has been great. I set a goal, and a tough one at that, and I've stuck to it! I haven't purchased a single article of clothing and it's really helped me narrow down what I need and it's forcing me to sew those items! So, less depresso - more espresso. The jeans will come... but for now, let's talk about this hoodie.

I didn't hem it. Don't judge me. I can't believe I live in Washington and I don't own a damn hoodie. It has been SO USEFUL! It rains. A lot.

I used the Greenstyle Centerfield Raglan. I finally reprinted it, but chose a size Small instead of XS. My measurements put me in the XS, but I needed more room if I was going to get it over a tank top. I used the add on hood and then I decided to do exaggerated cuffs for the sleeves. Obviously inspired by all the "grow with me hoodies" that I've been sewing. I guess I'm all ready for my arm growth spurt...

The sleeve mod is hardly a "mod" but a cute detail nonetheless. I cut the sleeves at the 3/4 sleeve length mark (I didn't even have to add a seam allowance because I was making the cuffs so big it didn't matter) and then doubled the rest of the sleeve length so that the "cuffs" would be "lined" so to speak. Easy peesy!

Greenstyle is definitely one of my top designers. Her patterns fit me. I'm more of an athletic build. (Disclaimer - I'm not saying I'm athletic, only that I have small boobs.) The pattern whips up really quickly and the add on pack has a cowl option, too. For me though, I need that head/rain protection, so I'll probably be making lots of hoodies. I didn't realize that it was a wardrobe necessity! The fabric is Double Brushed Poly from Surge Fabric Shop and it's so, so lovely. I don't wear a lot of floral for my tops, but the grey background is to die for.

It's been a little while since I've tested a pattern. I've been really loving finding my style and creating garments without a deadline and sewing up some older patterns I've owned for awhile. However, whenever Angelynn releases a new workout pattern, I love, love testing those! I end up using her patterns again and again for athletic attire. They always fit me so well and the instructions are always great.❤

I present the Xpress Tank from Greenstyle Creations!

Bet you can't guess why it's called the 'Xpress Tank' ... ok, maybe you can. This literally takes 20 minutes from start to finish and I'll have it be known that I sew like a sloth. The Xpress is ONE pattern piece and only TWO seams and a quick hem a around the entire thing.

For being one piece without darts, it fits surprisingly well! The tie back allows you to make the waist snug with room for your chest and waist. You also have a pointed back option and a round back option.  My favorite thing about this tank is that it has the cute crisscrossing on the back. Brings something special to an otherwise simple style. I've also noticed it's a RTW style. Lots of brands I follow are selling these similar tanks for $40. I made mine for under $10! It also pairs well with the Moxi shorts I sewed last summer. (Check out the review here)

I was absolutely delighted that I had picked some Underarmour Wickaway fabric from my last order with Simply By Ti fabrics. I only picked up one yard , but that's all you need for any size of the Xpress Tank. This fabric doesn't have a ton of stretch, but it's perfect to use on the tie back. You have a little more flexibility with the tie back having those extra long tails. It's also wicking and a great color. Ti actually carries this fabric in purple, jade (pictured), and navy!

This pattern comes in sizes 3XS to 3XL and every size uses only one yard! The pattern is no trim pages and has illustrated, detailed instructions to help you create a beautiful garment.

I sewed the XS based on my bust measurement and it fits great! I made a design choice to use the 'wrong side' of my coverstitch. I've seen this done in casual RTW clothes and thought it looked cute.  This is also the perfrct canvas to sport some HTV. I have a silhouette but have yet to set it up since we moved. A lot of testers used designs for their Xpress tanks and it looks great. Hoping to use some soon to create my own custom tank.

Also, don't forget that Greenstyle is holding a fitcapsule challenge to sew up three Greenstyle active-ware pieces to be entered to win some great prizes. There is still plenty of time as the challenge doesn't end until February 28th! You can join the fun on Facebook and see inspriation here. (P.S. There is a great coupon code for Simply by Ti Fabrics in the group as well!)

Hello 2018! I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday and New Year thus far. Have you made any sewing resolutions? I have made my biggest one to date. This year I'm going to make 98% of my clothes. Why 98%? Well, I really need jeans and work pants and I'm not attempting bras yet. So I've allowed myself to buy two pairs of jeans, 2 work pants and any bras if needed but everything else is off the table! I'm really excited for this adventure and to finally fill out my work wardrobe. So I've jumped in head first and sewed several pieces this year already.

Since it's health and wellness month, I'll share my first makes of the year, workout attire! I sewed this at the perfect time, too. Greenstyle Creations is having their second fit capsule with prizes, patterns and fabric discounts, and lots of excited people sewing workout clothing to keep their fitness resolutions. You can join in the fun here.

For my first 2 pieces of the fitcapsule, I sew up my forever favorite Stride Tights and the Centerfield Raglan.  The raglan is great because it can be a casual shirt or a workout top with the change of fabrics.

This awesome fabric is from one of my favorite shops,  Simply By Ti Fabrics. She carries really nice brandname athletic fabrics like Nike and Underarmour. I could gush about this black Underarmour wickaway fabric forever... It's plush and soft and way warm, it's my favorite fabric for leggings, hands down. It hugs like second skin.

There's not a lot to say about the stride tights that I haven't already said, but damn. These are my absolute favorite. If you've only sewn these with swim like me previously, please do your legs a favor and try some nice quality material like the wickaway fabric mentioned above. As for the raglan, I'll probably size up next time... same comments that I made before but I chose the same size again. I need to do myself a favor and reprint the pattern. :) Its certainly cozy and I'm happy to have a long sleeve. My wardrobe is severely lacking in any warm clothing. Guess I'm a summertime kinda gal.

So here are my first pieces of my capsule! I'm so excited for 2018, more sewing,  more blogging,  more mental and physical health. Has anyone else taken the pledge to sew their wardrobe this year?

The craziness is over! My wedding was wonderful, thank you for asking. I'd love to say I'm basking in sunny Cabo right now, but really I'm sitting in a freezing building in Gig Harbor Washington looking longingly at the bright sun rays shining outside wishing I was hiking Mt. Rainier or lounging on the beach. Family has come and gone, and now it's (as Rhianna so eloquently put it.) Work, work, work for the holiday weekend. Speaking of the weekend and sunny, sunny Summer, if you aren't workout ready, or activity ready, you should definitely check out the new workout pattern from Greenstyle Creations. Angelynn has been leading the pack with awesome active wear patterns that have quickly become my favorite.

Let me introduce you to your new Summer crush, the Greenstyle Creations Moxi Shorts

The Moxi Shorts Feature
-Sizes 0-18 (hips size from 31" - 52")
-Waistband Zipper Pocket
-Briefs or Thong option
-Add-on Compression shorts
-Layered Printing (Also A4)
-No Trim Pages
-Sew with knit or stretch woven

I wore these for a quick jont in the park. Ghaa. It's so awkward to have someone take pictures as you run by them ... regardless. Here's how these shorts look while in motion. :P I used clear elastic in the waistband as recommended in the pattern and they hug tight enough to stay up while running but not so tight that they're uncomfortable. The fit is pure Goldilocks.

The pattern is designed with bias trim to outline and give that true ready to wear look that you'd get from Nike or Underarmor. Honestly, they fit and feel just like my other running shorts if not a tad more comfortable because the waist is smooth rather than scrunched with elastic. I chose to sew the Moxi's in the recommended stretch woven and I attempted to do the bias the same, however stretch woven does not want to press without starch. (Lesson Learned, Starch Purchased) so I got creative and used the same nylon lycra for the bias trim as I used on the waistband. It actually sewed very smoothly when I did a single fold on the bias.

I sewed the size 6 and I may try the size 4 next. (I'm sewing a pair for my sister who's a tad smaller than I.) So it will be a great opportunity to see which size I like better. My legs feel rather tiny in these, but I did discover that Angelynn made a "skinny leg" section to help you modify these shorts if you have "skinny legs." (This is news to me.)

I think my favorite part of this pattern is the amount of time that Angelynn put into making the pattern perfect. Revision after revision she worked to create a pair of amazing running, beach, workout, hiking, lounging, active wearing shorts that look like the $60 kind you'd buy at some sporting goods store. No thanks. I'll make my own. ;)

I hope everyone is having an awesome Galentines day! <3 Today is my first official day on the job - so wish me luck! Maybe people will want to buy furniture from me... I *totally* look like I know about couches and occasional tables and chaises? So. I've got that going for me, I guess.
Anywho. I sewed up the adorable Norah Nighty from my ever-favorite Greenstyle Creations. This pattern is over a year old I'm sure, and I purchased it during release and am JUST now sewing it. This is a trend for me, but I'm positive I'm not alone. It's the whole, "eyes bigger than stomach" scenario. "Pattern desire beyond sewing time."

You will see that I'm wearing leggings in this shoot, and it should be obvious why. Basically, nobody pays me to see that much skin. lol

For the Norah Nightgown, I chose size Extra Small based off of my bust measurement and I chose the "Sassy" length. (That's what the pattern calls it. GS words, not my own. :P I can hear my best friend laughing about the word sassy right now. It's so "branded" in the south that I cannot use the term "Sassy" having grown up there.)

This was my first time sewing two delicate layers as one. I tried my hardest to find basting spray at Joann's, but when the employee (without bothering to look at me) said, "it's on the the t-shirt aisle," I was super done, so I left. Haha, I have my days I suppose.
So I just used a small zigzag to sew the two layers together before using it as one piece. The lace stretched and moved a little, but overall it worked better than expected. Especially because I was using the FOE method of trimming, it managed to cover most of the imperfections.

The pattern is pretty versatile. You have Optionssss! You can have a cross over bust, (like mine) or gathering. You can have knee, calf, or "sassy" length. You can trim it with stretch lace, lingerie elastic, or FOE.

I didn't choose FOE, FOE chose me. The laces I had on hand just didn't match so I went with a solid black which turned out nicer than expected. Plus, I put it through the sleep test, I'm happy to report that BOTH of my tatas were INSIDE the nighty when I awoke. That's a win for me. No twisting or sliding.

If / when I sew this again, I'll make a couple of changes.
1. Sew the back straps 1/2" towards the center.
2. Sew the skirt in size Small (per recommendation in the pattern for my measurements!) and potentially add 1" of width for a looser fitting skirt.
3. Sew mid calf length. I wasn't able to located a skirt-length-measurement-chart in the pattern and I failed to think about measuring it. I would have preferred something that covered most of my bottom as this fits more like a top.

The Norah comes with a pantie pattern, too! Thong and boyshort. I did sew up the thong which is not pictured. They are comfy but a little large in the belly-button-to-butt-crack area. (length?) I don't know how to refer to that area. Basically, I sewed the "low rise" and it's still pretty long. This causes me to push them down to a comfortable "below hip" area and makes wrinkles on the front. They are definitely comfortable and I'll still be wearing them, they'll just be my "comfort panties" not my "sexy panties."

I really loved how professional the pattern turned out! The back looks phenomenal to me, very "Macy's Lingerie Aisle." I was also surprised how well the bust fits my small chest. If you're like me and not "blessed" it's drafted really well and should fit even "boy" girls like me. XD
I loved how quick it was to sew, too! If you're considering something fun and handmade this Valentine's day, it's definitely do-able before the 14th! Remember Greenstyle has "no-trim pages." YUSS! That always gives me motivation. I can get sewing twice as fast if I don't have to cut four edges off of every pattern piece.

This is my try at casual sexy. Does anyone really lean on walls like this? I guess I do now. Watch out world. I'ma learn to sexy wall lean.

The constructions is pretty straight forward but the elastics can be a bit tricky, but if you're considering sewing your own lingerie this Valentine's, this one is such a simple construction, it's a wonderful place to start! Plus don't forgot that Greenstyle is still having a sale though the end of February, you can get 25% off of your entire purchase with code "Feb25"

So much love to you and your's, I hope you all have a fabulous, fun-filled Valentine's with those in your life that make your heart sing.

Herrrro! Wow. This is a strange feeling. I've never hosted or co-hosted any kind of "thing" before. Am I doing it right? ;)

Welcome the extensive Raglan Pattern Review Tour! Tibeca of Sewing by Ti and I will be sewing up a new raglan each week to compare and contrast the differences to help YOU make the best decision for your body and style. At the end there is going to be a huge fabric giveaway, so make sure to check back each week. :D

My first raglan was "The Centerfield Raglan" by Greenstyle Creations. (Make sure you read though the end, there is something special for all the readers!)

(don't I look happy? Well I am. I have birds on my belly.)

I've wanted to sew this raglan forever. I'm a slim fit girl. I mean. SLIM FIT. (This is starting to sound like a diet drink.) So the Centerfield Raglan was right up my alley.

If you read my blog you'll notice that this is the same fabric I used for my Lady Skater dress. <3 I love this fabric so much. But don't look at my boobs too diligently. FOX PAW - you can see my bra slightly through the main bird panel. Oops. I need beige underwear.

The Greenstyle is a great beginner pattern. There aren't a ton of confusing options on the standard pattern, however if you want extra options there is an add-on pack to make this a hoodie or a cowl. Personally, I think with the raglan being this fitted it would make a great "runner's hoodie" if sewn in athletic material!

The neckline is a standard feminine crew neck / scoop neck. It's flattering on most body types.

I did the sleeves and back in the same black as I only had scraps from the dress to do the bird panel. That's the great thing about raglans though, it looks totally normal to mix and match! You can always say it's just a "stylistic choice." :) This pic shows the curved hem which feels authentic baseball and very feminine.

Next time I sew this (yes, next time, because I'm a slim fit girl and this is an ultra slim fit shirt!) I will add a few inches of length to the front and back. This is a standard adjustment for me though. As I continue to sew I learn all sorts of new things to feel insecure about. Like my abnormally long torso. There's a confidence booster. Hahaha!

Who should sew the Centerfield Raglan?
This pattern is probably best for those with more "standard" measurements as the pattern chart only goes off of your bust measurement. (Think rectangle, hourglass, and apple)
So, if you normally have to blend over a range of sizes, it may want to make a muslin before you sew your final piece. It's also for those who like to wear and are comfortable in fitted clothing. However, you can always achieve a looser fit by going up one size!
ETA: Emily added in the comments that she identifies as pear-shaped and this is her go-to raglan. She's sewn four and they fit her great!

***Angelyn of Greenstyle has generously offered a discount code to all the readers of the raglan blog tour. Make sure to purchase before the end of February to get 25% off your entire Greenstyle order with code Feb25 at Greenstyle.com***

Tibeca put together this handy chart so we can have some easy comparisons. You can flip though this - we tried to keep it standard so you can see the differences between all the raglans that we review.

Next week I'll be reviewing "Lane" from Hey June!
